2015 will be remembered as the year our little family discovered the great outdoors. We’ve always loved being outside – living in Perth certainly makes that easy with beautiful beaches, parks and places to explore. However this year we became even more adventurous and started camping.
Handy Hubby and I love travelling but with our youngest tornado Mr TT being a strong-willed and energetic runner (I’m using positive words and deep calming breaths as I write this), the thought of him on a plane or out in the wilderness scares the bejesus out of me. Now that Mr TT is 3 and has stopped doing his signature runners, I felt we were finally ready to try camping. I’m so glad we did as both of our adventures up the north coast of WA were fantastic and not as traumatic as I expected…
You couldn’t really class our camping exploits as “roughing it” but I’m happy with taking baby steps. Besides, roughing it whilst trying to fully toilet train Mr TT this year would have been a recipe for disaster and not my idea of a good time!
A quick search of best campsites for kids resulted in a great selection. We loved discovering Lancelin and Jurien Bay and are looking forward to ticking off more places on our list next year.
As first time family campers, we started with the (comfortable) basics – a good tent, blow up mattresses, sleeping bags and small things like plates, mugs and utensils. After each camping trip we discovered more to add to our “camping essentials” list. Luckily we have an Anaconda store not far from us and, much like Bunnings, Handy Hubby regularly pops in for a wander around. And by wander around I mean always walking out with something to tick off our “must have” list.
There’s a great selection for kids too – here’s my ‘picks for kids’ for fun in the great outdoors:
Australian owned and operated, Anaconda is Australia’s first choice, one stop, outdoor, adventure and sporting store. I’ve been known to regularly lose Handy Hubby in the fishing and camping sections and my tornadoes can usually be found hiding in the tents (they’re yet to discover the wonders of the in store climbing wall). As for me, you’ll find me amongst the cold weather apparel, dreaming of one day dusting off my snowboard and getting back to the slopes.
For now I’m happy and thankful to live in a state with such great beauty that I can share with my little family. We can’t wait to get out and discover more in 2016.
Thanks to Anaconda, I’m giving away a $200 voucher to spend in store or online. All you have to do is tell me in the comments section below or on my post on Facebook – how do you plan on enjoying the great outdoors in 2016?
