Excuse me while I get clucky here but I love buying great gifts for babies. There are so many gorgeous baby gifts to choose from – but how do you find the right one? Step away from the fluffy stuffed toys my friends (they will only gather dust!). Instead, choose a gift that parents will appreciate and one that can be enjoyed well beyond the baby stage.
Here are some of my favourite unique, practical and fun gift ideas for baby this Christmas.
Bath toys make practical and fun gifts. I have given a number of these beautiful Origami boats as gifts. From Spanish designers Oli & Carol, they are 100% natural latex with no valve to let in any manky water. They also double as a great teether!
Soft and full of friendly faces, this Wee Gallery cloth book would make a beautiful gift and perfect first book. My tornadoes loved their soft books when they were young. Theirs were never as stylish as this monochrome beauty.
Squishy baby legs! Is there anything cuter? The new season range from Melbourne label Wilson and Frenchy is just beautiful. There’s lots of lovely designs to choose from including soft 100% cotton growsuits, zipsuits, shorts, nappy pants, tees, leggings and other baby accessories.
Made of water resistant and lightweight fabric, the Skip Hop Zoo Tuck-away Bib tucks into its own built-in pouch. I am a huge fan of these bibs as they are fantastic to take out and about and clean easily with a simple rinse or machine wash. I have gifted these too many times to count now as our own monkey bib lasted throughout the messy feeding stages of both Miss T and Mr TT. The monkey is my favourite however lots of other designs are available including Bee, Cat, Dog, Ladybug, Owl, Panda, Shark, Hedgehog, Cow and Unicorn.
These HodgePodge Baby pram pegs are stylish, practical and the type of item a new mum wouldn’t necessarily buy herself so they make great gifts for babies (and mums). Such a fantastic way to keep wraps from flying away and so much prettier than the old clothesline pegs I used to use!
Handmade in Perth from BPA free 100% food grade silicone beads and natural wood (finished with organic beeswax), these Mockingbird teethers by Tilly Mint Kids are easy for little hands to hold and safe to chew on.
These fun alphabet and number posters from Sydney’s Hello Miss May are just the thing for adding a bit of Star Wars-inspired geek sci-fi chic to the nursery!
Made from 100% recycled materials, these Green Toys stacking cups will enjoy many years of use in the bath, shower, sandpit and playroom. Free of BPA, Phthalates, PVC, melamine and external coatings like lead, these great toys are dishwasher safe too.
A good quality hooded towel makes a practical gift. This beautifully soft Sheridan “Quinn” baby towel comes with a mitt as part of a gift set. For a personal touch, why not have bub’s name embroidered on the hood?
Don’t forget books! Books make great gifts for babies. It’s never too early to start reading!
Hooray for Fish – one of my very favourite books for little ones by author Lucy Cousins, creator of the popular Maisy books. Mr TT and I reviewed this book earlier this year. At age 4, he still loves it.
Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes – a perfect read-aloud picture book. Every house needs to have at least one Mem Fox book!
That’s Not My series – this award-winning series of books has simple and repetitive storylines and is an ideal first book for chubby little fingers to explore.
