My gift guides continue! This time it’s for the curious little bundles of energy, stubbornness and gorgeousness all rolled into one – 2 year olds. Boy are they are hard work. At least both my tornadoes were at that age…
If you are stuck with what to buy a 2 year old tornado this Christmas, here are some fun and practical gift ideas. As with all my Christmas gift guides, nothing is sponsored here. All ideas are items I love giving or would love to give. Let’s go!
From Perth brand minkylane comes a t-shirt made for a 2 year old (also available in white and grey). Need I say more?!
Play-Doh is a classic gift and kids get so much enjoyment out of it. When introducing Play-Doh to a 2 year old toddler tornado, keep the colour selection to a minimum and keep repeating “Play-Doh is for playing, not eating” over and over again. A starter pack or a some single tubs are a great introduction to a world of fun. Rollers, cutters and shapes can be introduced in the years to come too. Just keep it away from the carpet…
Wooden peg puzzles are a fantastic first introduction to puzzles. They encourage eye-hand, fine motor and visual perception skills and are great for busy little hands. I love the sturdy wooden puzzles from Melissa & Doug including these basic numbers, shapes, dress up and farm animal sound puzzles.
I’m a sucker for a cute egg cup and these Danish designed wooden egg holders called Bordfolk (“Table People” in Danish) may just be the cutest I have seen. Lots of characters are available and each come boxed – perfect for a keepsake and practical gift.
Perth based My Little Play Pack was founded by a teacher and mum of three who wanted to create packs for kids which promoted fun and natural learning. Think Pinterest meets Play School in a box. This My Little Colours play pack comes with one of my favourite books (Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?) a wooden colour stacking toy (great for developing fine motor control and dexterity) plus information on play and learning for 18 month – 3 year olds.
Mr and Mrs Potato Head are classic toys! Mr TT continues to have great fun with his Mr Potato Head Silly Suitcase as it comes with lots of attachments – eyes, ears, noses, arms, hats, feet and more. He still thinks it’s hilarious to put Mr Potato Head’s eyes on his bottom.
The Micador early stART range features drawing and art products made especially for 2 to 4 year olds. Items like Egg Chalk, Wooden Crayons, Besties markers and Bubblegum paintbrushes are perfect for little hands to start playing and experimenting with art.
A fantastic gift for 2 year olds, you can’t go wrong with Duplo. This All-in-One-Box-of-Fun contains 65 pieces for lots of creative fun for many years to come.
Miss T and Mr TT love playing with their Duktig Play Kitchen from IKEA. Lots of pretend play and interesting Play-Doh dishes are cooked in this kitchen on a daily basis.
Dishwasher safe and made from environmentally friendly materials, this Green Toys Cookware & Dining Set would go nicely with the IKEA kitchen. The set includes stock pot with lid, skillet, 4 place settings (fork, knife, spoon), 4 plates, 4 bowls and 4 cups.
For a real keepsake gift, these classic Uncle Goose ABC Blocks are beautiful. A 28 block set, they are handmade wood-embossed, non-toxic, use child-safe inks and feature a menagerie of animals, numbers, maths symbols and four full alphabets. A timeless gift that will be kept in the family for many years to come.
Let’s not forget books! Books make fantastic gifts.
“We’re going on a bear hunt. We’re going to catch a big one….” One of Miss T and Mr TT’s very favourite books. A perfect chant-aloud book with lovely illustrations.
These two on the cover remind me of my tornadoes most nights when I’m trying to get them into the bath or shower. Rudie Nudie features a lovely rhyming tale with gorgeous illustrations.
Goat Goes To Playgroup follows Goat and his animal friends having fun and getting into muddles at playgroup. A fun book that is great for kids about to start preschool. (I’m also a huge fan of both Julia Donaldson and Nick Sharratt)
My kids and their friends love this Peppa Pig: Stomp And Roar! book. Peppa is incredibly popular with the pre-school crowd and this book is all about her, George and their friends going on a big adventure to Grampy Rabbit’s Dinosaur Park.
Be sure to also check out the great picture book round-up that Shannon from Oh Creative Day does on her blog each month. She features titles that would all make wonderful gifts.
Stay tuned to the blog for more bumper gift guides coming your way this month. You can also stay up to date with gift ideas on Facebook, Pinterest (I’ve got 50+ gift ideas pinned to my Gift Ideas: Age 2 board!) or Instagram.
