If you’re stuck with gift ideas this Christmas, check out this bumper selection of my favourite fun, practical and unique four to six year old gift ideas. Let’s go…
Rather than standard play dough or modelling clay, go for the wow factor with the awesome scented modelling doughs from Perth maker Dough La La. Non-toxic, non-sticky, lovely to touch and a huge hit with my tornadoes, ‘flavours’ include pineapple, blueberry, berry, bubble gum, lime, orange, peppermint, and strawberry. They smell amazing!
I am a massive fan of the beautiful hand-painted bicycle bells from Newcastle (NSW) based Beep Bicycle Bells. With lots of designs for kids and adults, they make a unique gift for anyone who loves riding their bike or scooter.
A funky bike helmet makes a great gift for any little speed demon. Mr TT loves the Kiddimoto helmet my Mum gave him for his fourth birthday. Kiddimoto has lots of safe and super-cool designs just for kids.
My tornadoes love sticky mosaic kits. They provide hours of non-messy fun and allow kids to explore their creativity as they stick coloured foam tiles to make gorgeous mosaic pictures like these animal and butterfly designs.
Possibly Miss T’s very favourite thing in our house, this Smiggle 30 pack of pens is a bestseller and includes a mix of gel, glitter, neon and pastel pens packed in a carry case.
You can’t go past a quality beach towel as a fun and practical gift. I love the ones at Pottery Barn Kids – there’s lots of designs to choose from but my kids would go crazy for these Classic Kitty and Stars Wars Droid designs.
With so much focus on technology and screen time for kids, it’s refreshing to find a new release “old school” product. Even more so when parents can also join in the fun. The Chit Chat Box by Tiny Giants is a fun yet meaningful activity box for children. Many of the activities spark intriguing conversations, wonderful ideas and lasting memories. Created by a Western Australian family of 5, their purpose in the creation of the Chit Chat Box was simple – to inspire children to think big, reflect, be creative and kind in a super fun way. It’s one of the most unique gifts I’ve come across this year and is perfect for this age group.
I love the fun sequin purses from Aussie brand Make Me Iconic. I still can’t go past the Fairy Bread design. Perfect for storing pocket money and little treasures.
Djeco make great puzzles for kids including this 54 piece Fairy Castle Floor Puzzle and 54 piece Pirate Adventure Puzzle – both suitable for ages five and over. The packaging is beautiful, making them ideal for gifts.
I loved Fashion Plates when I was a kid and am so excited they are back for a new generation to enjoy! If you want to watch a dork play with cool toys, check out my short video review. There’s no technology needed with this toy!
LEGO giant minifigure alarm clocks are perfect for kids crazy about LEGO but suitable for parents who don’t want more bricks to add to their already massive collection. How cool are these Ninjago, Stormtrooper and Wonder Woman clocks? There’s lots of other characters available too.
Every kid needs a skipping rope. This cute little fox is made from wood and has a long rope ready for jumping.
How pretty is this delicate openwork sterling silver butterfly necklace from Mad Alice Jewellery? I love the message on the packaging too – “Be your own kind of beautiful”.
Tap tap sets like these Djeco Vehicles and Garden designs are a big hit in the kindy and pre-primary classrooms at school. Thanks to Aussie online store Lucas Loves Cars, Gift Grapevine readers will receive 15% off tap tap sets and all other products storewide until December 31, 2017 when using the discount code grape15
Experience gifts! Annual zoo passes, local adventure parks and science centres – experience gifts are practical gifts that can be enjoyed all year round.
Don’t forget books! Books make great four to six year old gift ideas. Some of my favourite titles for this age group include All Through The Year, Nibbles The Book Monster, Thelma The Unicorn, Splat the Cat and the beautiful Ruby Red Shoes series. For kids ready to start reading, the Billie B Brown, Hey Jack and Hot Dog series are all fun first chapter books. The Hot Dog pack is being released on December 1 and is available for pre-order now!
