Aster & Oak organic baby clothes – affordable fashion that’s gentle on skin (plus a giveaway!)

Aster & Oak organic baby clothes - affordable fashion that gentle on little ones' skin

I love to shine a spotlight on Aussie brands doing amazing things. I’m even prouder when they come from my home state of Western Australia! In the lead up to WA Day on June 5, I’ll be sharing the story of three local brands that I love who are doing great things when it comes to baby and kids products. First up is Aster & Oak who have also kindly offered up a great giveaway – read on for how to win!

Aster & Oak is an Australian children’s clothing label that offers a unique range of certified organic clothing for all of the precious little people in your life. Western Australian mum of 2, Melissa Blight, established Aster & Oak in 2014 and is one busy lady – creating, designing, managing social media and doing every thing else in between!

I first spotted Aster & Oak organic baby clothes last year when I fell in love with the Woodland Animals collection, and in particular the super sweet flutter sleeve onesie and rompers.

Aster & Oak clothing is created exclusively using GOTS certified organic cotton and dyes, making them safe, soft and gentle on skin as well as gentle on the environment.

What exactly is GOTS? The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the name of the governing body that oversees the certification criteria of organic cotton right around the world. Certification is critical in ensuring companies comply with the criteria necessary to have their products classified as truly organic.

It was Melissa’s personal experience with her own children’s skin allergies that led her to research and create a range of eco-friendly, certified organic baby clothing which is safe, non-toxic, low-allergenic and free from any hidden nasties.

Because organic cotton is pure and isn’t treated with anti-static, anti-wrinkle pesticides and all the other toxic chemicals that ordinarily goes into making cotton, it’s highly absorbent and breathes beautifully.

The current 2017 collection is called “Enchanted” and each design is bold, practical and fun. I love the bright colours – a lovely change from traditional baby and toddler soft pastel pinks and blues. Nappy covers, harem shorts, 2 way zip rompers, onesies, tees, dresses, playsuits, leggings and wrap blankets – it’s all gorgeous!

So what should we expect to see in future collections? Melissa tells me “Exciting things!”. Whilst sticking with the much loved hand drawn designs and signature monochrome range, the brand will be moving into bigger sizing (up to size 3 or 4) and adding a few new product styles into their new collections. Think cot sheets and maybe some knit. We may also see two releases a year instead of one.

If you’re keen to get your hands on affordable fashion that’s gentle on your little ones’ skin, visit Aster & Oak online and follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
