Have you ever wondered “who voices that cartoon character”? I’ve sat through many, many episodes of Peppa Pig, Ben and Holly, and other kid’s TV favourites and I’m always wondering about the faces behind cartoon voices. Do they look like their character? Is that voiced by a man or woman? I’m sure Grandpa Pig is the same voice as the Wise Old Elf!
Or is that just me?
Wonder no longer as I’m exposing the clever people who voice some of our favourite kid’s TV cartoon characters.
1) Nanny Plum
I’ll start with my favourite: Nanny Plum from Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom is all sort of awesome. I love her dry wit and banter with the Wise Old Elf (which many adults insist is sexual chemistry!). She’s voiced by Sarah Ann Kennedy who you may also recognise as the voice of Miss Rabbit and Mrs Rabbit from Peppa Pig.
2) Peppa Pig Narrator
An unsung hero who ties together the intricate plot of each Peppa Pig episode, John Sparkes is the voice of the narrator on Peppa Pig. He also voices Mr Rabbit, Uncle Pig and Mr Potato as well as Bitzer and The Farmer on Shaun the Sheep!
Are you thinking what I’m thinking? I recognise B2’s voice as Dan Wyllie who played Dr Angus Freeman on Offspring!
4) Norman Price
Steven Kynman is the voice of Norman Price, resident troublemaker on Fireman Sam. Frankly, I don’t know how Norman hasn’t been shipped off to military school yet for his constant hijinks. Steven however looks like a stand-up fellow and is also the current voice of Fireman Sam, Elvis Cridlington, Derek Price and Charlie Jones. A talented guy, Steven trained with Jim Henson’s as a muppet and animatronic puppeteer, working on various projects including Muppet’s Treasure Island.
New to the kid’s TV scene, Ubercorn is the disco dancing leader of the Go Jetters and is voiced by Tommie Earl Jenkins. Tommie also played Donald in the TV Series ‘How to Get Away with Murder’.
6) Puffin Rock Narrator
If you’ve ever watched Puffin Rock and wondered “gee, that narrator sounds awfully like the guy in Bridesmaids or The IT Crowd”, you’d be right. Irish actor Chris O’Dowd is the voice narrating the adventures of Oona and Baba.
7) Shaun the Sheep theme song
Remember that catchy 1991 tune “Dizzy” by Vic Reeves and the Wonderstuff?
Guess who sings the Shaun the Sheep theme tune?
