Monthly gift picks are back! From bargain baby and toddler clothes to geeky toys, colourful décor, cute accessories, and an inspiring feminist bedtime storybook, here are 11 of my favourite new baby and kids gift ideas spotted on the interwebs this past month.
Skip Hop Zoo backpacks are perfect for day care and preschool. Miss T’s very first backpack was a monkey one and it went everywhere in those first few years. There’s lots of animal designs to choose from but this new bunny backpack gets my vote as the cutest. Get in early for Easter! I can’t believe I just said that. I’m still getting over Christmas…
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Aussie brand Make Me Iconic. I may have featured their wares a few time on the blog (hello, fairybread sequin purse!). There’s more fairybread goodness from them – this time in sticky tape form. Fairybread Fun Tape would add a special touch to gifts, scrapbooking, card making, and homemade gift tags.
Star Wars kites! How cool is this R2-D2 kite? Spotted at the shrine of all things geek, Think Geek (yay for international shipping), it’s also available to fly in Death Star, X-Wing or Millennium Falcon designs. I know a few Star Wars fans (little and big) who would love these.
Set for release on March 2, I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls.
“Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls introduces us to one hundred remarkable women and their extraordinary lives. From Marie Curie to Malala, Ada Lovelace to Zaha Hadid, this book brings together the stories of scientists, artists, politicians, pirates and spies. Each double-page spread contains a mini-biography written in the style of a modern fairy tale and a full-page portrait capturing the spirit of each heroine, by one of the sixty female artists from across the globe who were commissioned to illustrate the book.”
Sure to be powerful, entertaining and inspiring, this is a book I want my tornadoes to have on their bookshelf. Available to pre-order now.
Orchard Toys make great quality games and puzzles for little ones. Their floor puzzles in particular make excellent first “proper” puzzle gifts. With big, thick puzzle pieces and a fun design, this 15 piece Big Bus floor puzzle is recommended for ages 2 and over.
Made with 100% cotton and backed with a bamboo terry towelling, I love the hand screen printed bibs from Victorian based Joey Jelly Bean. These bibs use water based inks, are fastened with an industrial strength resin snap clip and come in lots of cute designs. This koala is one of my favourites!
Dolls, teddies, Beanie Boos or other favourite toys can sleep in style in a handmade doll’s bunk and custom bedding set from Sunshine Coast based maker Little Mackie. One of these would make a very special gift – one that can be passed on to future generations for even more pretend play.
Aussie label Milky has great threads for babies and toddlers. There’s so many cute, funky designs to choose from with tees, rompers, shorts, skirts, pyjamas and more for little boys and girls. You can find a big selection of Milky clothing in sizes from 0000 up to 2 currently on sale for 40% off at Prairie Fox.
Perth maker Clay and Clasp continues to release more gorgeous designs. Her new handmade polymer clay unicorn earrings and pendant necklace are ideal or any little (or big) lover of unicorns.
Happy gift hunting!
