We all have childhood memories of gifts we were given. Some gifts were coveted while others made us cringe. I love to hear stories of childhood gifts and who better to ask than my favourite bloggers?
The lovely Shannon from Forty Up was one of the first bloggers I met “in real life”. We are both from the same ‘hood and call the mean streets of Perth our home. Shannon is incredibly lovely, down to earth and stylish to boot.
Forty Up is all about fashion, lifestyle, family and travel. There’s so much to like here. Shannon’s fashion posts are relatable and the styles she features are achievable. It’s no surprise she is a Parenting and Style finalist in Kidspot Voices 2015 (congrats Shannon!).
There’s an air of casual cool about Shannon and from her flashback photos it seems its always been this way. Even her favourite gift had a stylish wardrobe!
What was your favourite gift you were given as a kid or teen?
I have loads of memories of treasured toys as a kid. I always have been and still am a sucker for the latest fad and sparkly advertising! I loved my Strawberry Shortcake doll collection, I had a beautiful wooden rocking horse that my parents still have at their place and of course later on, there was my Cabbage Patch Kid – Bridget Ingrid. But looking through my parent’s photo albums I was reminded of my love for Snoopy. He came on many great adventures with me, kept me cosy at night and had a rocking wardrobe! He was later joined by his sister, the gorgeous Belle.
Who gave Snoopy to you?
My parents gave him to me. We are unsure as to whether it was a birthday or Christmas, but I would’ve been about 5 years old.
Do you still have Snoopy?
Yes, he still lives at my parents place with Belle. I’m not sure their wardrobe is still intact, but they both get lots of cuddles from my kids when they visit. Snoopy is in fantastic condition considering he’s about 35 years old!
Is it something your kids would play with now?
My daughter is not as into playing the whole dressing-up-toy-thing as I was at the same age, but that might just be a sign of the times. My son is the one who would be more inclined to take Snoopy on adventures with him out in the yard now.
Any other details or special memories of this gift?
Some of the fantastic outfits I collected over time were Snoopy Detective, Surfer Snoopy and Cowboy Snoopy! Although Snoopy came al natural and you needed to collect the outfits, Belle came in her gorgeous pink dress, matching pink shoes and handbag and a red bow in her ear. Belle’s wardrobe grew to include a Hula Outfit and Ballerina!
I was quite into the whole Peanuts gang and comics later on. My Dad was always one for encouraging us to read and have a laugh at the comic strip in the newspaper each day with him.
A big thanks to Shannon for sharing her gift memories and gorgeous flashback photos.
