Gift guide 2 - gifts for baby

Step away from that soft and fluffy stuffed toy! It will just gather dust along with many others. Instead, choose a unique, practical and fun gift for baby this Christmas. One that parents will appreciate and can be enjoyed well beyond the baby stage.

Nothing is sponsored here. All ideas are items I love giving or would love to give. Let’s go!

Oli and Carol origami boats

These 100% natural latex baby bath Origami Boat toys from Spanish designers Oli & Carol are fantastic – no valve to let in manky water plus they double as a great teether.

hodge podge pram pegs

Stylish and practical pram pegs from HodgePodge Baby – what a fantastic way to keep wraps from flying away. And so much prettier than the old clothesline pegs I used to use!

Skip Hop monkey tuck away bib

Made of water resistant and lightweight fabric, the Skip Hop Zoo Tuck-away Bib tucks into its own built-in pouch. I am a huge fan of these bibs as they are fantastic to take out and about and clean easily with a simple rinse or machine wash. Designs come in a variety of animals (cat, dog, elephant, dinosaur, panda, owl, bee, unicorn, hedgehog and more). The monkey is my favourite design and lasted throughout the messy feeding stages of both Miss T and Mr TT.

Greeen Toys stacking cups

Made from 100% recycled materials, these stacking cups will enjoy many years of use in the bath, shower, sandpit and playroom. Green Toys products are free of BPA, Phthalates, PVC, melamine and external coatings like lead. Dishwasher safe too.

Green Toys tugboat

Another Green Toys product, this tugboat is one of my favourite toys to give to little ones. Made from 100% recycled materials, this sturdy bath toy floats well and has a large spout for scooping and pouring water. An added bonus is that it’s also great to wash away shampoo when hair washing in the bath! My tornadoes still play with their tugboat in the bath every night.

play space playmat

A quality play mat is a practical gift and you’re onto a winner when it’s super stylish to boot! The Bella Buttercup Play Space play mat has a soft cushioned surface so is ideal for tummy time, is usable on both sides and has internal water-resistant layers that act as a barrier for damp surfaces (so great for taking out and about).

Cheeky Little Soles standing

Cheeky Little Soles make soft, comfy and adorable genuine leather shoes – perfect for little ones who are standing, crawling and cruising around.

Sheridan quinn hooded towel set

A good quality hooded towel – thick yet soft enough for baby’s delicate skin – makes a practical gift. This Sheridan “Quinn” baby towel comes with a mitt as part of a gift set. I’ve given this as a gift and it is beautifully soft.

my first sherrin bluemy first sherrin pink

OK – so I’ll admit this isn’t the most practical gift but a My First Sherrin football is certainly cute for any budding AFL superstar. Also available in specific team designs (you can get those from the individual team stores).

Mason Pearson childs brush

For something special and a true keepsake – I LOVE my Mason Pearson hairbrush. It was given to me by my beloved Grandma when I was little and I still use and cherish it to this day. Grandma also gave a brush to both Miss T and Mr TT and I hope they will cherish theirs too. This Child’s Bristle Brush comes in pink, blue and white.

Don’t forget books! Books always make great gifts and it’s never too early to start reading.

Alphablock  Hooray For Fish  thats not my bunny

With thick pages cut into the shape of each letter, Alphablock introduces the alphabet with funky retro illustrations. Not your everyday alphabet book – and that’s what makes it great to give as a gift.

Hooray for Fish! is one of my favourite books for little ones and another great title from Lucy Cousins that I can recite by heart (Cousins is the creator of the popular Maisy books). I love her bright and bold illustrations.

The author and illustrator of the “That’s Not My…” books have created a goldmine from this award winning series of books with simple and repetitive storylines. There are now over 35 titles! My kids love the touch and feel pages. A great first book for little fingers to explore.

More of my favourite baby and kid’s books can be found on Pinterest. I’d also highly recommend checking out the great picture book round-up that Shannon from Oh Creative Day does on her blog each month. She features fantastic titles and all would make wonderful gifts.
